Although Christmas is a great time to have parties, sometimes I wonder if we overdue it on the Christmas festivities. When you find yourself dragging yourself from one party to another (like I have), I begin to wonder if the best thing for Christmas time would be to stay home with your family and enjoy THEM! Granted, I’m writing this entry after I have successfully attended about seven parties in two weeks…everything from Santa flying in on a helicopter, young teenage girls dancing in ways they should not, letting 2 year old kids decorate cookies, doing a gift exchange at the beach, and a few more bbq’s have summarized our Christmas party season so far. I think that since we’re on Guam and it doesn’t “feel” like Christmas, people like to overcompensate. Some of the parties have been fun…but I’m pooped. One of our last parties this weekend is “Rota Walk” as our street closes down for the whole base to come and admire our Christmas lights. I didn’t realize we signed up for that when we moved here.
Here is a little Guam holiday cheer for you:
Jungle Bells (sing to the tune of Jingle Bells)
Here we are on Guam without a hope of snow,
Under spreading palms, typhoon’s sure to blow!
Santa Claus should know, what the tropics will allow.
Instead of riding eight reindeer he’ll ride a carabao.
Oh, jungle bells, coconut shells, sticker burrs all the way,
Oh, what fun it is to ride in a carabao cart today, Hey!
Jungle bells, coconut shells, sticker burrs all the way.
Oh, what fun it is to ride in a carabao cart today!
